dsPIC33CH Dual Core family - one chip, two cores for simpler firmware development

Optimized for high-performance digital power, motor control and other applications based on advanced algorithms, Microchip's new dsPIC33H family is ideal for system developers working with multiple software teams to design high-end embedded control applications.

This is because the dsPIC33H family is the first Microchip microcontroller with two dsPIC® Digital Signal Controller cores in a single chip, one master, one slave. Whilst the slave core executes dedicated, time-critical closed-loop control code, the master core runs the interface, system monitoring, and communications functions which vary according to the actual end application. This makes it easier for separate teams to develop independent code for each core, and then later integrate designs when they are brought together in one chip.

When applications are based on sophisticated algorithms, such as wireless power, server power supplies, drones and automotive sensors, the dsPIC33H's dual core comes into its own.

This video demo shows master and slave cores in action, explaining in more detail how they work independently:

The dsPIC33CH family is supported by Microchip’s MPLAB® development ecosystem including MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE), and by the popular MPLAB Code Configurator (MCC) tool, and this reduce time spent setting up pin assignments, peripheral modes and application stacks.

To reduce system costs and board size, advanced peripherals are available to each core including high-speed ADCs, DACs with waveform generation, analog comparators, analog programmable gain amplifiers and high-resolution Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) hardware - you can get the full list of complementary devices, documentation, resources, and suitable Microchip development tools by downloading the PDF attached to this article.
