10k Face Shields donated to Ghana

RS Components has stepped up its donations of 3D Printed PPE equipment to countries around the world, by partnering with an international charity to send 10,000 face shields to Ghana.

Following the end of the National 3D Printing Society’s UK initiative last month, the 3D Printing Project team at RS Components has been working to find homes for the remaining face shields outside of the European Union.

3,000 have already been sent to our sister company Allied Electronics for use in the United States of America, with a further 2,000 being distributed to health workers in Moldova.

Following a new partnership between RS Components and Give Back Ghana (http://www.givebackghana.org) 10,000 face shields that were printed by the N3DPS volunteer network, are now being distributed into some of the most rural and impoverished areas of West Africa.

Give Back Ghana is an international project overseen by a collective of
Ghanaian and British entrepreneurs and creatives. The scheme was set up with a simple mission; to help the most vulnerable families in Central Accra.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak, they have been creating care packages, including food, toiletries and hand sanitizers, which have been distributed to those most in need.

Tom Russell, founder of Give Back Ghana said; “I got stranded here in Accra when lockdown came and the borders here still remain closed.

“I started Give Back Ghana initially to help people with food packages. Recently we have started to source donations of PPE and have been working closely with Korle Bu Teaching hospital here in Accra supplying N95 masks for their frontline workers.”

Alison Hutchings, Product and Supplier Manager at RS Components added; “Myself and the 3D project team are delighted to have been able to use our global connections and network to ensure that the 3D printed face shields go to where they are needed most.

Give Back Ghana are doing incredible work in supporting the communities worst effected by COVID-19 and we are delighted to be able to support them in their efforts.
