As portable device proliferation continues unabated, the challenge of matching chargers, cables and devices is becoming an ever-growing headache for consumers.
The ability to recharge your smartphone or tablet simply by placing it on a wireless charging mat without having to fiddle with wires is a very convenient and secure concept.
However, if the device is incorrectly positioned or someone bumps the charging pad and moves the device, the wireless charging connection may be broken leaving an uncharged device and a frustrated consumer.
To overcome these challenges, free-positioning wireless charging devices have been developed that use a bundle of coils to generate a magnetic field at the location of the receiving coil. This multi-coil architecture enables low-cost battery charging with increased freedom to position a device in any location or orientation on the charging surface.
