Mary Shelley, the author of everyone’s favourite flat headed tall bloke with a fondness for bolts in the neck, Frankenstein, was born way back in 1797, in London, England.  Always found with a head in one of the books of her father’s library, Mary used her active imagination to escape the onslaught of her troublesome stepfamily, publishing her first poem when she was just 10.frankenstein1_f098df624d0f20aa3097ccf2f3b741cfa4a326ea.jpg

In her late teens, Mary scuttled off to Europe on a romantic adventure with a young chap called Percy (who she eventually married). One rainy, cold, evening in a friend’s home in Switzerland, Mary, Percy and friends regaled each other with scary stories, which is where the idea for Frankenstein was born. A couple of years later, Frankenstein: Or, The Modern Prometheus, was published, and the entertainment industry certainly hasn’t let us forget it, inspiring countless movies and TV shows over the years.
