We have appointed Lauren Scott as our Mentoring Ambassador! And, as of September 2021, Lauren will be supporting diversity focused societies in developing their own Professional Mentoring Programme :)
The Grass Roots team have come across many societies looking to either implement or improve a mentoring programme, if that sounds like you, keep reading!
Lauren has been working hard to develop the Equip Programme, based on her recent experience in the final year of her Engineering Degree, leading the mentoring programme for her society. This programme allowed Lauren to meet STEM professionals and ask the questions she had always wanted to! In turn, this helped her improve her CV, get an internship and secure her graduate role!!!
The programme will support you in pairing STEM students with professionals in the industry who, through regular meetings, will help them achieve their goals.
If your society is interested in the programme, let us know here :)Â
Mentorship has recently gained traction within STEM fields. Various research papers have studied the effects of same-gender-mentorship (SGM) as a tool for retention of women within STEM and companies all over the world are now using mentorship to improve inclusion and diversity and retain talent from underrepresented groups. The reason for this is because Mentees have increased self-esteem and report a more positive experience. Equip is bringing these benefits to STEM students.
We are looking for two representatives from your society to lead on this project. (Don't worry - full support and guidance will be given)
Those societies chosen to take part in this round of the programme will have access to:
- An in-depth, detailed toolkit including templates and guidance
- Regular meetings as you progress through the programme
- Workshops tailored to your society
- Support from Lauren + the Grass Roots team
You will need availability between September 2021 and March 2022, to include some evening meetings. Exact dates will be arranged around your availability and schedules.
Any STEM Societies, across the globe, who aspire to improve diversity within STEM fields can apply.
You must have two society members who have the capacity to run the project (approximately 1-2 hours/week) and can make evening meetings.
If your society is interested in the programme, let us know here :)Â
