Trenz 4 x 5cm FPGA & SoC Modules
FPGA chips, once just used as a way of replacing many simple combinational logic chips with a single device, are increasingly being used to replace ‘standard’ microprocessors in high-speed applications. For example, the larger versions of FPGA devices contain so many elements, it’s possible to create whole arrays of small custom processors for parallel crunching of image data.
Some of the latest chips feature ‘hard-wired’ processor cores integrated with the programmable logic and are known as System-on-Chips (SoC). This allows the design engineer to have the best of both worlds.
Trenz Electronic offer a very wide range of FPGA and SoC modules, all with the same 4 x 5 cm board format, designed for incorporation in customer applications destined for production. All modules in this 4 x 5 cm form factor are fully mechanically and largely electrically compatible with each other.
TE0720 Zynq-7020 SoC Module Series
The TE0720 series are all based around variants of the Xilinx Zynq XC7Z020-xCLG484y SoC device, where ‘x’ indicates the clock speed and ‘y’ indicates the operating temperature range. In addition, the modules have the following basic features:
- Up to 1GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
- 32MB QSPI Flash memory
- Up to 32GB eMMC memory
- 1Gb Ethernet communication
- USB 2.0 High-Speed ULPI transceiver
- 4 x 5cm footprint with 2 x 100pin and 1 x 60pin target board connectors
Â
The XC7Z020-xCLG484y SoC itself features:
- Dual ARM Cortex-A9 MPCoreâ„¢ with CoreSightâ„¢
- Artix-7 FPGA with 85K Logic Cells
- Clock speed up to 766MHz
- Commercial or Industrial temperature rating available
Rugged design for Industrial and Automotive Applications
The availability of different operating temperature variants offers maximum flexibility to the design engineer. Prototypes can be developed using the Commercial (C) specification modules, switching to the Industrial (I) grade parts (if necessary) for production units. For automotive (ADAS) applications there is a further option: modules fitted with Automotive (Q) grade SoCs are available which have been stress-tested and meet the AEC-Q100 quality standard.
For detailed specifications of each module in this series see the Trenz web catalogue page for TE0720 series modules.
