For efficiency’s sake: High current relays now available on PCB

The challenge for designers who need to use high-voltage relays is that, until now, these have been large, standalone components, that are designed to be mounted as a separate unit with wired connections to a control board. This means additional costs in both components and additional hand assembly. Plus, every interconnection, from board to leads, from socket to relay connection, creates a potential issue with reliability.

With the release of its pioneering HE-relays, Panasonic Industry enables designers to use PCB technology for high current applications:

With careful material choices, intelligent design decisions and due respect for the physics of transmitting large amounts of energy at high voltages – having in mind especially the suppressing of arcing – Panasonic succeeded in the functional integration of relays even in challenging circumstances.

The result for designers is smaller, cheaper and more efficient power control circuits able to serve a widening portfolio of applications. The advantage for consumers is the emergence of new ways to safely use electrical energy to achieve greater convenience and efficiency in their lives.
