Applications where Molex technology is right at home

Choosing the perfect product for your design is crucial to device performance, reliability, and efficiency. If these core elements are compromised, the functionality of the whole smart device suffers.

So, how can you find the right product for your smart home application?

With more than 100,000 products available either off-the-shelf, semi-custom or entirely custom, Molex’s product portfolio is equipped to react to the technologies of tomorrow.

Antennas

As the Connected Home market continues to develop, new applications require new technologies that enhance space, cost, and speed. These key components test the capabilities of wireless manufacturing and encourage innovative antenna design and performance.

Antennas allow users to gain remote access to their device of choice and eliminate the need for direct wiring between device transmitters and receivers, providing freedom of location and movement. This enables antennas to be used across the Connected Home landscape, in applications ranging from security and surveillance devices, to home entertainment, and energy and utilities.

Molex’s expanding range of off-the-shelf and custom antennas highlight our ability to design and manufacture products to suit any wireless needs. Communication technologies such as Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and Cellular are supported by our portfolio of Antenna solutions.

Sensors

Sensors are a core element of the Connected Home environment, and measure elements such as motion, flow, temperature, and force. Customers in the Connected Home space often identify an unresolved need that can be addressed by technologies such as printed electronics.

Leveraging our portfolio of acquisitions, Soligie Printed Electronic Sensor Systems provide an exclusive product with a unique and integrated design and manufacturing process. These printed sensors can incorporate a diverse range of components on printed electronic substrates.

Soligie products are completely customised solutions, developed to meet the most demanding customer requirements.

The use of custom Soligie products ensures that solutions do not stray from product design specifications. This is particularly important in smart home applications, such as smoke detectors, burglar sensors and security cameras.

Flex Assemblies

For Connected Home applications that require tighter and more compact solutions, Molex’s broad line of printed and flexible hybrid electronics provide products that can fit into smaller spaces whilst bending to allow for necessary movement.

Designed to maintain signal integrity for high-speed applications, Molex Copper Flexible Circuits save space in tight applications where flexibility is necessary. Copper circuit layers are bonded to a flexible dielectric substrate, ensuring the isolation of each copper layer electrically. This type of product is particularly useful when a reduced overall weight is required.

Silver Flexible Circuits provide an economical substitute in comparison to other options. These circuits use pioneering silver ink and printing technology that enable fine traces to be directly screened on polyester. Such technology is applicable in devices such as wearables, remote monitoring and building sensors.

The potential applications where flex assemblies can be used is continuously growing. As devices continue to get smaller and more complex, the use of flex assemblies is likely to increase.

Switches

Molex Capacitive and Metal Touch Switches provide custom user interfaces for applications spanning the Connected Home market. As household appliances continue to get smarter, next-generation capacitive technologies are incorporating features that enhance the functionality and aesthetics of home devices.

Delivering exceptional performance, Capacitive and Metal Touch Switches provide a solution with design flexibility and superior tactile responses. Capacitive touchscreens are now rapidly outpacing mechanical interfaces in Connected Home applications such as smart metres, smart home assistants, and smart thermostats.

 Interconnects and assemblies

With one of the world’s largest portfolios of electrical interconnects, Molex has a variety of products to choose from for the Connected Home space. Products such as FFC/FPC connectors, USB Type C and micro USB products, fine pitch SMT board-to-board connectors are core components that feature repeatedly across the spectrum of Connected Home applications.

The combination of these interconnects in Connected Home devices brings Molex to the forefront and illustrates how we can provide both standard and custom solutions that meet the unique challenges of opportunities across the Connected Home landscape.
