Simplify Installation Issues for Power over Ethernet (PoE) Devices

Power over Ethernet (PoE) is basically a way of powering a device over a twisted pair Ethernet cable, so providing both data and power in a single cable and not needing a separate power supply next to the installed device, which makes installation much simpler and cost-effective. Devices being powered by PoE are widely found around the IT industry and include:

  • IP Cameras (with pan & tilt functionality)
  • Network Routers
  • VoIP phones
  • Wireless access points
  • IPTV decoders
  • Point of sales kiosks
  • Industrial control systems

However, what happens if there is an issue during the installation? A fault on the cable, such as a short/open circuit or wrong connection. There may be insufficient power being provided over the network to power the device.
