Reference Design of Arduino Motor Shield

The reference design of Arduino Motor Shield (RS Part Number: 758-9349) was converted into DesignSpark PCB format and you may download the project’s files and BOM list in the Download section at the bottom.

The Arduino Motor Shield is based on the L298, a dual H-bridge driver chip designed to drive inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, DC and stepping motors. It lets you drive two DC motors, controlling the speed and direction of each one independently. You can also measure the current of each motor. The Shield is TinkerKit compatible, which means you can quickly create projects by plugging TinkerKit modules into the board.

  • Operating voltage: +5 to +12V
  • L298 motor controller drives two brush DC motors or one stepper motor
  • Max current: 2A per channel (or 4A with external power supply)
  • Current sensing: 1.65V/A
  • Free run, stop and brake functions
