Power over Ethernet, or PoE, is a technology that allows power to be delivered through network cables to a parent device via power sourcing equipment. It has many advantages over traditional power delivery methods. It allows power and data to be combined, reducing cabling. It can be installed by non-electricians as there is no need to alter the AC mains infrastructure. It is an intelligent system with protections to prevent over-current, under-powering and installation errors. It is simple, scalable and reliable.
