Full Formula E Electronic Control System (the first runner-up)

HKPolyU Racing, the first and the only formula racing team formed by local university students, is to represent Hong Kong to compete in the Formula Student Electric China (FSEC). Different team members join together to design and manufacture a single-seater racing car and I am the one to develop a control system for the racing car. The control system has three main functions:
- Monitor the status of the racing car (e.g., throttle, steering, accelerometer … etc.) and display it to the driver (see Fig. 1, 2 and 3).
- Control the dual three-phase motor by the microcontroller.
- Develop a safety subsystem in the control system. If the break and the accelerator are applied to the racing car at the same time, the microcontroller sets the car in free-running mode (both of them will not be applied to the car).

i-Help (the second runner-up)

Nowadays, many people do not pay enough attention to sit in correct positions to use their electronic products, like smartphones and tablet computers properly (see Fig. 1). We developed the i-Help product as a smart assistance to alert people if they do not sit in correct positions to use their electronic products. There are two components in this product: a Raspberry Pi and an ultrasonic sensor (see Fig. 2). The sensor is to measure the distance between a user and his/her electronic product. If the distance is too short for a prolonged (specified period, for example, 1 minute), the Raspberry Pi sends a signal to the electronic product to alert the user. In our demonstration, we use Scratch program in a PC as an example. When the Raspberry Pi detects that the user is not sitting in the right position, the Scratch program in the PC receives a message from the Raspberry Pi and it shows an alert message on the screen (see Fig. 3).
