electronica 2020 - Virtual Conference

Today should see the electronics industry descending on the beautiful Bavarian city of Munich for the start of electronica 2020.

Sadly due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the event will not be taking place in the famous Munich Messe. However, the show must go on (virtually at least).

electronica 2020 will instead be held purely virtually from November 9th to 12th. Exhibitors and visitors still have the opportunity to meet despite travel restrictions and to exchange information about new products and innovative solutions in the field of electronics.

Following the unprecedented decision to cancel the physical event, Falk Senger (CEO of Munich Messe) said: “It was a very tough decision to cancel electronica as a physical event. As recently as August we were looking forward to hosting the trade fair and optimistic that the electronics industry would be able to meet in Munich.

“Nevertheless as we all know with COVID we face a very dynamic situation that can change on a daily basis. In September, changes relating to travel restrictions in many countries became more stringent again and forced us to rethink our plans. Without a doubt, international exhibitors and visitors are the heart of electronica and in light of this situation, we would not have been able to meet expectations with an in-person trade fair.

"We would have lost the character of electronica as a world-leading trade fair.

"We have held many exhibitions and trade shows successfully at our venues over the past few months, however, I feel that we have made the right decision with cases starting to rise again across Europe. We are proud to be able to provide a very good alternative to the electronics industry.

"The online format of electronica 2020 offers the industry a business platform, for discussions, networking and knowledge transfer. Just like at the physical event, participants will be able to visit virtual trade fair booths and visit exhibitors online to discover the latest products and solutions available within the field of electronics.

"There is also an extensive online forum program with four forums running. Our conferences will also be held digitally this year. These are based around Automotive, Embedded Platforms, Medical Electronics and Wireless.

"The heads of Pepperl and Fuchs, Infineon, STMicroelectronics and NXP are taking part in the CEO round table event discussing which direction the electronics industry is heading during COVID and beyond.

"We may not all be able to get together in Munich, but we can all still get together on one platform. Whilst we are unable to completely replicate every aspect of the show online, we are pleased to still offer one place and one time for the industry to meet."
