To improve both design quality and visibility, the number of cases utilizing white LEDs for numerical displays and as indicator light sources in industrial and consumer equipment is rapidly increasing.
However, until now white chip LEDs typically used epoxy or silicone resin for this moulded section, which can exhibit problems in applications demanding high reliability due to luminosity degradation and/or poor mould strength during mounting.
ROHM’s New Compact White Chip LED: SMLD12WBN1W
Adopting a new material that combines the benefits of epoxy and silicone resins allowed ROHM to achieve long life and exceptional mountability in a 1608-size white chip LED.
1) Achieves long service life
100％ luminous intensity was successfully maintained during energization testing (1,000hrs). This makes it possible to achieve a service life equivalent to silicone resin and 20x longer life than epoxy.
2) Maintains superior mountability
Mold strength is increased by 25x over silicone products, clearing even general requirements.
