On the 11th of April 2017 Siemens announced the launch of their new LOGO!Power power supplies. This 4th generation is about to replace the existing range which has become very popular over the last 20 years.
- Start-up and power reserve optimally adapted to the starting current of LOGO! 8
- Identical design (profile, radii, surface, material, and color)
- Identical mounting options (DIN rail, wall/ceiling mounting)
- Identical connection method (screw terminals)
- Successfully completed system test of LOGO!Power with LOGO! 8, IOT2020 and IOT2040
Peter Oakes an independent blogger from thebreadboard.ca has tested the performance of LOGO!Power generation 4 with an SIMATIC S7-1200, two expansion modules and two SIMATIC IOT2000 gateways plus a Ethernet switch and has been impressed about the performance. The new generation 4 is 18 mm smaller in each performance class whilst providing a higher efficiency of up to 90%. Therefore space requirement in the control cabinet automatically shrinks. Another interesting feature is a measuring point that allows the measurement of the output current during operation.
Siemens has also expanded the range from 9 to 11 devices by adding two new power supplies to the family which are the 12V / 0.9 A and 24 V / 0.6 A variants. Both come in a 18mm width housing.
For today´s users of LOGO!Power the way to change to the new generation is open. Both generations are fully compatible and easy to exchange. With all the new technical benefits and the same price level, the benefits are obvious.
RS Components and Siemens have created a migration guide which not only provides a cross reference from the old to the new devices, but also compares the technical features and benefits of the new and old LOGO!Power generations. With links to additional material like videos and installation guides it is a useful support for all LOGO!Power fans.
