Connectivity for Infrastructure of Smart Factories

When talking about the Internet of Things, there’s a lot of discussion around the specialist products available, but what about all the other elements? A Smart Factory requires connectivity throughout, especially with the rise of ‘Big Data’, power, and signal between connected devices.

Whilst the Smart Factory runs smoothly, it works as compartmentalised sections, and these need to ‘talk’ across all processes and machinery. Therefore, each section needs to be connected in order to send data back and forth. Sensors collate most of the data and report this back to an intelligent computer, which can process the data and gain more information on each machine.

Connectivity carries power, signal and data within the Smart Factory. Ethernet Switches, M12 and RJ45 provide these solutions, along with offering the Fast Ethernet required in Integrated Industry. preLink is the solution for future-proof 8-pole cabling for Gigabit Ethernet within applications, with reliable termination technology for time-saving installation. The connected solution enables continual feedback of information between devices, and for intelligence to be collected. Which in turn can begin to build the basis of information to enable remote access, maintenance and predictions for any downtime.

Plug and play solutions enable cables to be repeatedly connected and disconnected, without the restraints of hardwiring. Benefits of this approach include reduced downtime for maintenance or adjustments to the machinery, as elements can quickly be replaced and reconnected.

Using the right connectors within a smart factory is paramount to ensuring everything runs smoothly and is able communicate across the factory. HARTING offers a range of connectivity solutions ideal for an integrated industry application – discover more here.
