Several years ago, I built two of the Cosmic Watches from the MIT design (https://tinyurl.com/y67f2k3v). They were abject failures.
I managed to build the PCBs, and the computers and electronics worked fine it was the detectors that defeated me. I was going to try again, but the thought of putting out another $200 for the very fragile detectors put me off.
Is there a surface mount detector available? If so, I would try again
