Build a circuit using op-amp

HolyHathaway

I would like to builds a circuit to listen to very faint sounds with a microphone using 741 op-amp. However, I have a question regarding the output voltage of the op amp. Would is still work properly if the output voltage is around 1V?  Supply would be +-12V (voltage generator). I'm asking because I have a condenser microphone rated at 42dB, so at 1Pa SPL I would get only around 8mV, correct? If I build an op amp with a gain of 100, I would get around 1V or am i missing something? I realize 741 isn't the best choice, but it's what our lab is equipped with, so I'm stuck with it.  what about OPA656 op-amp? I have one at home.
