The new family from Osram Opto Semiconductors PLPVQ 940A with BIDOS® is their first entry into Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers or VCSEL for short.
Unlock your secure smartphones and tablets using facial recognition.
The VCSEL technology acts as a light source using infrared to illuminate the face evenly. The camera then captures an image of the user and this is compared with a stored reference source image. Matching unique key characteristics for each ensures validation, thus unlocking the device for the user.
Osram is adding this technology to their extensive portfolio, paving the way for new areas of application such as 3D sensing and gesture control.
