We’ve all heard the old saying, “as safe as houses”, right? The term was originally coined during the mid-nineteenth century when the railway bubble began to burst and attention turned to the housing market as a safer investment. This blog doesn’t explore the current state of the housing market however, but does pose a very important question around how safe in fact, is your house?
Overall the Office for National Statistics reports that the significant drop in burglaries seen in the last 20 years would suggest that you are now 3 times less likely to be burgled than in 1995 but none the less, ensuring your home or business are secure is naturally, one of the biggest fears we all have about safety.
Huge improvements to the way in which we can now secure our properties has undoubtedly helped the burglary rate drop but it’s sometimes the smallest and simplest of things that appear to be the most effective. Making sure all doors are locked and windows are shut is an absolute must where ensuring that valuables aren’t left on show and not drawing attention to the fact you’re on holiday is another way of deterring someone from attempting to gain entry to your house.
