‘Debug Electronics with Instrumentation – OpenScope MZ and Waveforms Live’ workshop will be at the Wuthering Bytes festival on September 3rd, 2017 at The Birchcliffe Centre (UK). Digilent is collaborating with the Wuthering Bytes organizers to provide technology enthusiasts with a hands-on workshop for the new OpenScope MZ module. The module has been created so that engineers can quickly and easily design projects, debugging anywhere they go while capturing data conveniently over WiFi.
Introduction
The Wuthering Bytes Festival is focussed on providing technology enthusiasts with the latest technological trends, hacking tips, particle acceleration news and computing data. The festival is held from September 1st to 10th with fantastic speakers, fascinating insights, and amazing stories from leaders in science, software, design, and hardware industries.
The OpenScope MZ workshop will teach attendees to ‘acquire, analyze, visualize, and control signals from circuits, sensors, and other electronic devices’1. Watch the video to get a better understanding – video.

Schedule and location
The workshop will take place on September 3rd, 2017 at 10:00am at The Birchcliffe Centre, Birchcliffe Road, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, HX7 8DG (United Kingdom).
About the workshop
Attendees will be provided with a tool kit and printed teaching materials during the workshop. The total daily attendance cost to enter the festival is £10. This includes attending the OpenScope MZ workshop and any other speaking or workshop events available that day. Visit the Wuthering Bytes website for more details.
The OpenScope workshop will be run by Iona Catuna, a senior engineer with years of experience in electronics design and a passion for making. Attendees will be instructed to use WaveForms Live, the free, open-source, JavaScript-based software designed for the OpenScope MZ. Inspired by WaveForms 2015, this recently released software runs in a browser and provides engineers with flexibility in instrumentation setup.
Features
The module comes with the following features:
- 2 scope channels with 12 bits at 2MHz bandwidth and 6.25 MS/s max sampling rate
- 1 function generator output with 1MHz bandwidth at 10 MS/s update rate
- 10 user programmable pins configurable as either user-programmable GPIO or as a 10- channel logic analyzer
- User programmable power supplies supplying up to 50mA and ± 4V power
- USB bus powered or externally powered
- On-board WiFi
- Browser-based WaveForms Live multi-instrument software
- Re-programmable through Arduino IDE or Microchip MPLAB X IDE
