A Linux Version - Now's The Time

Arctic Eddie

Based on the problems with W10 and the likelyhood that W11 will be worse and eventually a subscription product, I'm making plans for a Linux system. I've installed Mint Linux 20.2 Mate on an external 256GB USB stick on my older W7 PC. Most of my apps are cross-platform so a Linux version is available. A few are simple with no critical graphic requirements so Wine is working OK. The one that I'm concerned about is DSM5. The Wine approach does not work and many forum posts elsewhere confirm the problems. I've started to learn FreeCAD and find that many modifications to an existing model require an almost complete rebuild. In DSM, it took just a few minutes to change the angle of two holes. I would dearly love to stay with DSM in a Linux version. The Wine package may eventually solve the problem but it's been out for years and I don't anticipate much progress. Since the DSM source code is already written, I would hope they could produce a DEB install file far sooner than Wine could solve the 3D problems.
