Microchip - Curiosity Starter Kit for PIC MCUs

Microchip Technology Inc. is a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, providing low-risk product development, lower total system cost and faster time to market for thousands of diverse customer applications worldwide. They have recently announced their plans to expand their development platform to support its growing innovative Core Independent Peripherals (CIP) 8-bit PIC® microcontroller (MCU) portfolio. The Curiosity Starter Kit from Microchip is a flexible fully integrated 8-bit development platform designed for first-time users and experienced design engineers alike, offering a feature-rich, rapid prototyping experience for Microchip’s 8-bit PIC® microcontrollers. The Curiosity takes full advantage of Microchip’s easy-to-use MPLAB® X development environment with an integrated programmer/debugger; no other hardware is needed to get started.

Curiosity starter kit takes full advantage of the Microchip’s MPLAB® X development environment which is an ideal platform for modern function controls of 8-bit PIC® microcontrollers. The layout and external connections will enable easy access to the Core Independent Peripherals (CIP) on the 8 pin PIC MCU. The CIP simplifies design and the user can integrate different functions in a single MCU system, making the system power consumption and BOM costs kept low.

The Curiosity starter kit can be connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) which is equipped with plenty of user interface options. On-board the Curiosity features a MikroElectronica mikroBUS™ socket that makes adding extra functionality effortless. Simply add-on one of the numerous MikroElectronica Click™ accessory boards to explore a wide range of different applications and technologies. Adding Bluetooth communications is easily achieved with the installation of Microchip’s RN4020 Bluetooth Low Energy Bluetooth module. Interface devices are also provided; the board is pre-populated with physical switches, an mTouch™ capacitive button and an on-board potentiometer.
