The Truesense KAI-0XXXX series of image sensors cover a range of formats and image sizes using different CCD image sensors.
They are based on the TRUESENSE 5.5 micron Interface Transfer CCD Platform offering broad dynamic range and excellent imaging performance. Image blooming is suppressed by using a vertical overflow drain structure which also allows for precise exposure using electronic shuttering. Numerous application areas including Industrial inspection, Robotics and Surveillance areas are now using optical imaging and with this the demand for greater image quality and sensor performance is increasing.
This range of 5.5 micron image sensors from onsemi offers higher resolutions, faster frame rates together with reduced noise and smear. In order to achieve higher resolution, pixel size needs to be reduced but this can also come with reduced performance. These devices are built on a new Interline transfer CCD technology platform, this allows for much smaller pixels but retains dynamic range, responsivity and quantum efficiency of larger pixels.
Pixel Design
The new Interline CCD pixels feature a Vertical Overflow Drain which is formed beneath each photo diode. This is used to limit the amount of charge collected in each pixel. This provides anti-blooming protection for the diode but can also remove charge from all pixels and be used used for precise electronic shuttering. The image arrays are configured to allow for multiple output progressive scan operation together with multiple read out modes and higher operating speeds. Smear performance is enhanced by the inclusion of a second light shield layer which is optimised for the photo detector aperture.
6 devices in this range are available from RS, they have a high degree of commonality allowing different sensors to be used with minimal design changes.
