The H/W Expo workshop on 27th and 28th April in Cambridge will include a free 2 hour workshop examining both visible and non-visible LEDs and associated products. The workshop, presented by Intelligent LED Solutions, will give an update on the latest LED technologies for experienced engineers and will give an introduction to LEDs for engineers new to optoelectronics.
"LEDs are playing an increasingly important role in hardware design,” said Adrian Amor, Director at Intelligent LED Solutions. “From visible applications such as display backlighting, or non-visible applications such as the UV curing in dental equipment or IR in CCTV, LED technology now has a very broad remit and in this workshop we will be sharing our extensive knowledge and experience in this field.”
The workshop will include the history of LEDs, and an explanation of the many different terms used in light measurement such as lumens, lux and flux. There will also be information on colour temperature and CRI.
There will also be a section on the concept of band structures, doping a semiconductor and PN junctions, each of which are essential to understanding the electrical properties of matter and LEDs in particular.
The workshop will take a closer look at an actual LED device and its key parameters, and will explore the types of LEDs available with considerations to which type of LED to use in a given application. The workshop will also cover the essential accessories required for LEDs, such as lens and reflectors, heat sinks, PCB and control.
