Here at RS, we’re really excited to be supporting the Intel Smart Cities Hackathon sell out event this weekend - 6-8 March 2015 - at Fab Lab London.
Supporting Hackathon’s is something RS has been doing for sometime, collaborating with such people as the Met Office. Our interest stems from the recognition that events like these provide a pedestal and networking opportunity that can unleash the creative beast, helping to shape ideas, inspire innovation and develop designs.
With the majority of people around the world living in cities, rapid urban growth creates challenges that can be shaped by using the latest technologies and it is this theme that is a the heart of this weekend’s multi- city hack – the global urban datafest.
The RS hack sponsorship is just part of an ongoing commitment to Fab Lab London, who now receive a regular donation of end-of-life product each month that they can use in educational workshops or for developing innovative projects at the site.
Over 80 people are attending this event - from developers, data scientists, urban experts and open hardware enthusiasts – and there will be cash prizes to the tune of £3500 awarded for the most inspiring hacks developed.
Fab Lab London www.fablablondon.org. is a 4,000 sq. ft. event space with 3D printers, laser cutters, milling machines, electronic lab and vinyl cutting equipment.
