Ah, Technology.  We all use it, but to call myself a techno Geek is pushing it.  Give me an iphone, and I’ll be lucky to switch it on, let alone be able to use it.  I have an ipad, but it gathers dust as I find it too difficult to find what I am looking for, which is usually internet.

titleMy phone is a top of the range Samsung.  “Why?” you may ask, when I hardly text, as that is for girls.  I use the phone a lot and the internet.  I chose it for its camera.  Plus I can text if need be and have a basic idea on many of the functions, though over half the apps, mean absolutely nothing to me.  I understand what they do, but what are they for?  Why do I need for everyone to know what I am eating and where or if my Aunties dog has an ingrowing toe nail?  Will people be more interested in that, than me writing this?

I have a top of the range sat nav.  It even has voice command.   I find that very easy to use, as I ask my wife to set it up as I am driving.  To be honest, I only ever use it for addresses as I can usually find my way around without a map or sat nav, though I always have a map to give me an idea of where I want to go.

I also have them for my bike, when I go touring abroad, but again, I tend to point and go and may switch it on for a few minutes to avoid a toll road.

Now, my bike is one of the latest muscle bikes.  Masses of raw power with not the best handling or speed.  It hasn’t any ABS which I really can’t see the point in having on a bike if you can actually ride one properly.  Yes it will work, for newbies and people with little confidence but if you brake hard enough to set it off, then there is something wrong with your riding.

I am kind of nerdy about it, as I want the best tyres for grip and mileage.  I have the suspension set up properly so it is more comfortable and handles better.  I have heated grips, a top box which can be removed or fitted in seconds, a screen which works and looks good.

My helmet has Bluetooth.  It is one of the most expensive and comfortable you can buy.  It doesn’t steam up or leak when it rains.  I can wash the insides, and I can chat to my wife on her bike.  It will also talk to my sat navs and phone, though I don’t connect the phone, as that would be too much of a distraction while riding.

Is that being sensible or being a geek as I knew what I wanted, before I got the bike?

So, now you know a bit about me, and my latest gadgets, does this allow me to be an honourable geek, or will I be confined to be one of those people who does things without gadgets, like walking the dog and knowing I have walked or cycled a good way by how my legs feel or if I am heavily breathing, not having a watch or an app to tell me?  My record for walking at work, is 20 miles, according to the app on my old phone!  :-)
