Raspberry Pi is by far, one of the most popular open source hardware platforms available today! The fact that it is available at the very affordable price, there is an availability of healthy amount of technical resources online for FREE and it let users develop lots of interesting applications, other than being used as a full-fledged computer working on LINUX OS has really made it an obvious choice among electronic enthusiasts & professionals. RS Components is the global authorized distributor of Raspberry Pi.

The FDP began with the introduction to the embedded systems, microprocessors, microcontrollers, single board computer (SBC) examples followed by introduction to raspberry Pi (its specs, general features, capabilities & applications & various OS it supports).

Then we straight away slipped on to hands-on exercises starting from powering up the Raspberry Pi B+, followed by installing OS (Raspbian) using NOOBS installer. During the hands-on sessions participants were exposed to setting up network on Raspberry Pi (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, SSH, VNC), LX Terminal and various important command, programming in C, Python & Scratch, installing WiringPi library and GPIO programming in both C and Python. Media capabilities of Raspberry Pi were demonstrated with Open-Elec & XBMC OS.

Participants were really satisfied with the program and gave a very encouraging feedback, though most of them felt there should have been more GPIOs programming and examples during the training.

We thanks all the participants for travelling down from various far of places to learn Raspberry Pi on a Sunday!

Thanks are due to Varun G, Vinod Kumar & Vishal B of Technopark, Trivandrum for making the local arrangements.

We look forward to hearing from you! Feel Free to share your comments/feedback.
