Intelligent Remote Control Car Competition / Flying Robot Exploration

Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin) held an Intelligent Remote Control Car Competition / Flying Robot Exploration in May 9, 2015.

The event was honored to get three sponsorships, RS Components Ltd is one of them. There were three activities organised

• Intelligent Remote Control Car Challenge - an independent race
• Intelligent Remote Control Car Challenge - Loopback race
• Flying Robot Exploration

The competition is aimed to promote interest to the Foundation Diploma students in electronics, communications and computer technology/engineering and to increase their understanding. There were more than 40 students attended the event with among about 20 students participate in the competition.

Training workshop was held on a few weeks before the competition on basic principles and operation of the smart car so that the students were familiar with programming skills. Bluetooth technology was used to achieve the communication between the intelligent vehicles and intelligent devices (such as smart phones / tablet). Through running application on the Android smart devices, students designed autonomous response actions for the intelligent vehicles to deal with obstacles. Flying Robot Exploration included three tasks : (a) Preliminary Competition - to fly from the departure station within 5 feet of the target landing outside the specified range, (b) upgrade game - to fly from the departure station within 5 feet of the target landing outside the specified target with stop position scores shown for the final calculation, and (c) explore the aerial game - flights within the specified time, and at the same time looks up to specify "complete" goal. Through the above series of activities, students will be able to improve their logical thinking, planning and problem-solving skills.
