How to make a Raspberry Pi Case out of everyday objects

Hi, I'm Jude and I am a design engineer, currently working for a leading British engineering company. I have found that modelling in cardboard offers a really quick and easy way to get your concepts into reality, and I would love to help you get involved.

I have created a series of short videos that will hopefully give you some of the basic skills you'll need to get started. Raspberry Pi is causing a lot of excitement at the moment, so I have made it the subject of my first video project by creating a cardboard case to fit the board.

Cardboard is basic – and that’s the point. It’s used at the early stages of the creative process to help quickly develop ideas for yourself or as part of a team. In time, you will of course, progress to more professional prototyping materials, such as sheet plastic or even 3D Printing, but you’ll probably be glad you ironed out a lot of the problems (dimensions, form, function, etc) before you worked in the more expensive and time-consuming processes.

In future, I want to develop the series by creating more videos that will cover other techniques, including how to use these prototypes with 3D modelling software to turn your concept into production. I'll give you some tips on the right equipment to use, and a few useful hints on how to easily create some quite complex shapes.

I'd love to make this Design Modelling blog interactive, so feel free to let me know how you get on by posting comments and pictures of your designs her on DesignSpark.
